Then...
Have you ever let an opportunity pass you by because you were not paying attention to what a new venture directs your life. This is a description of my life. And now, as I am fully retired, I’m collecting ideas, and thoughts of what I want to explore and experience in my travels.
My life has been of privilege. I was born into an affluent family in the Eastern part of the Mid-west in the United States. I was given a private school education (both secondary and college level), served in the US Air Force and Air National Guard, took on stimulating professional assignments that lead me to take on challenges that stretched my intellect in many ways.
.
Now...
So now I am stepping into my Third Quarter of Life (between career and death) where I become the architect and implementor of the life I want to live. AND IT IS HARD. I’ve found that our professional lives are structured by education, effort, and enthusiasm for the opportunity to learn while being of service toward others. AND when that is removed, we stand empty handed with a lot of questions without ready answers. What I have come to know is that life is ours for the choosing, and when we have taken opportunities to grow, the growth may provide voids where we hoped there were answers.
.
What's Next...
What do I want to live into and experience before I die? This is what I have been exploring for the last four years. Yes, I have a bucket list and Yes, I am filling it and crossing off the items I’ve experienced on my list. Though there is more. I’ve found my intellectual and spiritual self-had a GAP (Growing Away Part) that contradicted what was important in my earlier life. As I finished up 2022, I came to appreciate that all that I had worked for in my professional life was not going to help form my personal life when I PROTIRED (I use Protire because I want to move forward, not revert back to past experiences). The whole idea behind PROTIRING is about stretching yourself in ways you have not done before. This means the boundaries that we used in our earlier life do not pertain to how we live out one's future.
Things that are important to keep me growing. This is a work in progress. And it is not easy. Yes, we could sit back and swing on the front porch hammock, our we can challenge oneself to explore other possibilities. AND as I have found, what does not work now, will need several other events to provide the ‘lead up’ to doing something that will change one’s life. That is where I am now.
