A
Virtual Visit to Lake Powell
in October 2000
Every fall, my wife,
Kater and I travel to some place that we have never
been before. This year, our friends from Colorado
invited us to join them on a house boat trip on
Lake Powell. We had no idea what to expect. The
week was packed with great scenery, warm days with
starfilled cool nights, and wonderful swimming,
hiking and water-skiing.
Join me as you see some
of the wonderful scenery which I captured on my
digital camera.
The pictures are good, though being there is even
better.

My first picture is of
the Shirley and Kater talking together as
we are heading
South within the first hour of getting on
the houseboat. On the left is Castle
Butte.

This picture is Tapesty
Wall. It is huge. I'm added two more shots below to
show you the size of this shear rock
formation.

- the face of the wall was at least 300 feet
high.

From Tapesty Wall --
heading south toward BullFrog and Halls
Crossing,
our friend Shirley took us into the Forgotten
Canyon to see the
Defiancee House ruins. These ruins are several
hundred years old,
and they are built into the side of the rock walls.
The pictures do not
do justice, though I will provide some commentary
on what's what.

Here's the view from the water towards the
ruins.
I will provide an overview below with Kater in it.

The view was spectacular!

the entrance of the ruins main underground room.
-> On the right is the primitive
ladder leading from the underground room to the
level Kater is standing on in the left picture.
This was a great stopping place. Rich in
history to say the least.
